What is leaky gut, and how do you prevent it?

Stephen gondry, here you may have heard people in the health world talking about something called leaky gut. It’s a very hot topic right now, but there seems to be some confusion about what it is. So let me clear things up right now by showing you exactly what leaky gut is how it happens and how to prevent it. You see when you eat food. It goes down to your stomach to get broken down. This process unlocks the nutrients in the food and then the broken down food travels to your gut, where the unlock nutrients gets absorbed through the intestinal wall, but there’s other stuff in the food that shouldn’t get absorbed, such as pathogens, contaminants and other bad stuff.

You don’t want in your body. This is where your gut lining comes in also known as your intestinal epithelium. This lining acts as a filter, letting good stuff through and keeping bad stuff out, but when your gut lining gets weak, which happens on many modern diets, little holes start forming in the lining and bad stuff gets through kind of like this. Here’s the lining of your gut and there’s leaky gut, so this is actually what’s happening in your gut and this condition is called leaky gut for a very good reason now, the stuff that makes it through these holes triggers a cascade of unhealthy immune activity in your Body the result is serious damage to your health on all fronts.

Digestive trouble, heart problems, faster aging weight gain, you name, countless health conditions can be traced back to leaky gut. So how do you prevent it? Well, what modern diets are often missing is a special kind of fiber known as prebiotic fiber dietary sources of prebiotic fiber include Jerusalem, jokes Tiger nuts, Belgian endive chicory parsnips and a lot of others. So when you eat prebiotic fiber, it goes down to your gut and helps your microbiome, protect your gut lining and control what your body absorbs.

So this is a blend of prebiotic fibers that my company Gundry MD, makes it’s called pre bio tribe. Let’s see what it does inside your gut, so I’m going to take pre bio thrive and I’m going to put it on the lining of your gut okay. Now that the gut has prebiotic fiber, let’s do the leek test again and again. This is real. Pre bio thrive here comes. Oh my gosh. Look at that absolutely no leak. The truth is prebiotic.

Fiber does more than just plug the holes. It feeds friendly bacteria in your gut your microbiome. These bacteria then use the fiber to make butyrate, which nourishes and strengthens your gut lining. Strong gut lining means no more leaky gut. This means better digestion, better health and a longer happier life so make sure you get your prebiotic fiber every day and say goodbye to leaky gut. This is doctor Gundry, i’m always looking out for you we’ll see you next time and thanks for reading.

Rheumatoid Arthritis and The Importance of Good Gut Health

My name is Laurie McLean. I was diagnosed with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis at the age of 2 for those of you that haven’t been here before my blog focuses on inspiring others with rheumatoid arthritis and educating those with the disease or those who, maybe don’t know anything about the disease, but have a Loved one or a friend somebody they care about with it, so this is one of those episodes where we are going to get educated big time.

The topic today is gut health and we are discussing it with the rhone Ruben of gut Lee haven’t heard of gut Lee before, don’t don’t worry, neither I they have a liquid probiotic. That is amazing. Now you know hopefully, that I don’t talk about products a whole lot on this blog and, alas, I believe in them. That’S what I did with the sketch of shoes and now with this, the gut Lee liquid, probiotic Tyrone Rubin, is graciously provided a ten percent off discount code to our air of yours right there, our era and is what you enter, that checkout to get your probiotics.

So this is tasteless yay, you know some of those probiotics. They can taste a little a little funky right. Well, this one, nothing it’s like taking water, it really is plant-based yeah and it doesn’t need to be refrigerated. So when you go traveling this bad boy, it can come right along with you and you don’t have to worry about missing your daily dose of probiotics. Why are probiotics and healthy guts really really important of us with autoimmune disease? The rhone Ruben is going to fill us in.

Take a look first of all, thank you so much for having me on it’s a pleasure, my pleasure yeah and I’m really excited for us to talk about. You know all things gut health and really just to see where the conversation leads. But absolutely you know we got started in this. You know Bonnell around five years ago, actually after my mom passed away from cancer and my background is in actually computer science.

So I study computer science at Berkeley and she passed away around that time. So I was looking okay. There must be a way that we can, you know, perhaps intercept disease before it gets really severe. So I started doing a lot of research and I eventually came across the gut microbiome. So all the good and bad bacteria in the gut and you know kind of pulling on one string. It led to another, and you know we basically uncovered that the gut is related to all different kinds of diseases at all stages of their progression.

Yeah, and that’s really where we’re looking at and we’re truck. So we started a company called gut Lee mhm and gut Lee’s mission really is to really unite all these different disease groups together and to better understand disease at a fundamental level. So hopefully we can, you know, help people of the next generation and even today improve their diet using all natural foods and probiotics. One of the things I guess that we need to discuss is how patients with rheumatoid arthritis come into play with your product.

Now you contacted me because you had seen something really interesting in your in your findings. So if you just go into that a bit similar to a lot of other autoimmune conditions, has a big link with the gut, so things like dysbiosis, so that talks about you know the balance of the good and bad bacteria that live in the gut and their Effect on the immune system, yeah, so that’s really where you know one of the small biomarkers we look at.

But you know it’s really all about restoring balance to the diet and, what’s what’s really interesting, is that you know the gut and your body are actually communicating in this feedback loop. You know. So if you have a condition or a disease, you know that’s affecting the kinds of bacteria that you have, but then you know it’s kind of a vicious cycle. Then your bacteria will then reinforce your body and kind of possibly exacerbate those symptoms.

Absolutely absolutely you know a few years ago. I think it was about four or five years ago the Mayo Clinic started to discover the connection between autoimmune diseases and and the gut and since then – and even I mean I’m sure it was noticed before them. But the Mayo Clinic really kind of put that out. There and discussed it with people, but I don’t know how many RA warriors out there realize how important got health is to their overall feeling, so with your probiotic.

If a warrior were to start on your probiotic, what are some of the things that they would notice in terms of overall feeling right, so we can. Of course you know. Everyone’S body is different, absolutely yeah, and so that’s one of the big reasons week. We like to combine the probiotic, typically with the gut health test, to find out what specifically is going on in your unique gut now in terms of the probiotic.

It does vary for every single person, but in particular with autoimmune conditions. One of the big things is that gut lining, so the probiotic has these beneficial plant and soil based bacteria mm-hmm, and they also have all the enzymes that those bacteria produce. Okay, and so those enzymes are really great at repairing the gut lining and as a result of that eventually over time, that leads to reduce inflammation, and you know excitation of that immune response mm-hmm-hmm.

So one of the things that I am sure some of our viewers have heard of his leaky gut yes, and so is that somewhat of what you’re talking about with yes, okay, yeah yep yeah? Can you explain leaky gut? Is that absolutely fantastic? Absolutely so you have these cells lining your gut, they’re close, feel your cells, yes, and it’s really just pretty much a single layer. Now these cells are held together by these things called tight Junction proteins.

Now, on top of the tight Junction proteins holding together, the epithelial cells, you have this mucous membrane. That’S produced now. What’S really interesting is that your cells, your epithelial cells, need food. Just like the rest of your body. You know it’s like every other cell, but their food is actually the byproduct of those naturally occurring bacteria. In your gut now, your Gusti seems called short chain fatty-acids short chain fatty-acids are about 90 % or so of the food of these epithelial cells.

Now they also have a complex kind of relationship with kind of affecting the level of mucus produce and various things like that. But part of the reason the probiotic is so beneficial is because number one the plant and soil based bacteria are the one of the main producers of these short chain fatty-acids and as a result as well. The enzymes that they produce not only are food for that lining, but they also have enough on the bad kinds of bacteria, then prompting them to decrease in numbers.

So it kind of like that two-fold effect. Well, that is really cool, so in essence, by taking a probiotic, we can repair our leaky gut. Possibly, yes, it will definitely help. I okay, you know, as with all things with health, you know it’s about a holistic. Absolutely you know approach to it, so the probiotic will definitely help you know if it really. It sounds, you know, try it or cliche, but you know it’s really about.

You know the emotional aspect as well. It’S about the foods that you eat. You know your your psychology, you know, and that really does play a big integrated role in you know how you’re responding to the condition, so we really truly are what we eat. We are folk, we’re what we think yep you know all of it together, but I’m so excited to be trying your probiotic. I don’t know if you can see it behind me.

Yes, I put it in my. I put it in my tea this morning. I let it cool down just a little bit, so it wasn’t piping hot, but some put some of your godly probiotic in there and yeah. I I mean, don’t it has no taste, it’s amazing. Yes, we think you know you, can you know if it tastes kind of gross? You don’t really want to add it with anything I just get straight, but yesterday I did do it just straight yesterday see right what the cos he was.

It’S awesome. I love that, and you know that’s you know related to that. It’S you know. This natural approach is really a big part of our mission as well. Yeah yeah, that’s really one of the main reasons why we didn’t get pill forms of the probiotic hmmm. So a lot of the pill forms of probiotics have these binding agents in them they have certain preservative agents. So that really is an unnatural kind of thing, so the probiotic is actually grown on a farm yeah, so we grow it on a farm we use plant and soil naturally occurring on the farm.

It’S USDA certified organic and it’s kind of its harvested year around and these year-round fermentation machine. So you know it’s just collected and batches as we go along throughout the year as more grasses or harvested. So that’s what sets your probiotic apart from the other ones, that I’ve seen anyways is that it’s plant based right plant plant soil base and it’s it’s a liquid. So if some people have problem with pills, that’s just a nice benefit, but the really big part like you’re saying is the natural.

You know farm grown playing soil based. You know it’s really natural organic stuff. Everybody has different bacteria, that’s living in their digestive system. So now part of this is based on your family. So your genetics, now it’s interesting when you’re born you actually get your first dose of these bacteria from your mom, some whore. They used to think that you were. It was a sterile birth, so there was no bacteria.

The baby was somehow you know coded no bacteria in there, but that was actually the opposite. So your coded and bacteria from your mom and there’s actually a big difference, even between c-section births and non c-section versus in terms of the rate of allergies, autoimmune conditions, all kinds of stuff. So that’s, it starts from the time you’re a baby and then it changes all throughout your life.

So a big core of what bacteria you have is partly genetics, but an even bigger part is your diet and lifestyle. So, and you know, lifestyle includes things like stress, emotions and died of course. So the reason is is because your bacteria are alive, so they’re living creatures. You can kind of think of your gut like a rainforest, so in a healthy rain forest you have thousands and thousands of different kinds of species and they’re good, because each one is just doing its best to survive and they keep the other.

You know kinds of animals in check right, and the same is true with the gut. So if you have imbalance in the gut, it could be that there isn’t enough checks and balances between other kinds of bacteria. But the saying you are what you eat is really. You know takes on a whole new meaning here, because, depending on what you feed you’re, not just feeding you you’re, feeding, your bacteria and you’ve got so, for instance, we see this all the time, so people common test with us and they have an overgrowth of the Protein bacteria or a set of bacteria associated with protein now, that’s because they’re feeding their gut ecosystem they’re got flora all these high protein foods and these bacteria don’t care about anything they’re.

Just like Oh food, but you know that imbalance causes all kinds of issues. You know that’s just one example very interesting, so that was my discussion with their own. Isn’T he awesome that guy knows so much about gut health? I can’t wait to pick his brain some more throughout the month and I really do hope that you’ll come back and read more of our articles. Now, don’t forget: go over to gut lead CO and get your probiotic right now and also get that gut health test done.

It’S really important and you’ll probably find out some things that you didn’t know about your gut and you also get customized plan on what foods you should and shouldn’t eat to better your gut health again, the first article for this month of gut health, everybody take care And I will see you again next week, bye for now.

TREAT DIABETES NATURALLY – Keep probiotic population and variety high

Today’S subject of discussion is about population of probiotics, as well as variety of strengths. Of these healthy bacteria probiotics possess powerful. That MIT is fighting features. Two things influence the extent to which probiotics are effective number one, the population of bacteria and secondly, diversity. Studies have found healthy people to have a high count of healthy bacteria, as well as extensively diverse strains of bacteria.

So it’s always important to ensure a high population of highly diverse, friendly bacteria. Friendly bacteria are important for suppressing the population and effectiveness of disease-causing bacteria. So when the amount of healthy bacteria is too low or the growth of harmful bacteria follows what happens? Is that these harmful bacteria starts to eat on the wall of the digestive tract, making the wall highly porous a condition commonly referred to as leaky gut? This allows harmful bacteria and other contents to leak out through the walls of the digestive tract.

Now a leaky gut is really really bad for diabetes and health in general, because it tends to worsen systemic inflammation and insulin resistance, the root causes of diabetes and other health problems. A leaky gut also seriously weakens the immune system, which is a very concerning outcome, because diabetes itself has an adverse impact on immune function, so the combination of diabetes and a leaky gut can lead to infections and other problems related to poor immune function.

Now probiotics are important for production of vitamin k2 an important nutrient for heart health. A low population of probiotics may mean in adequate amounts of vitamin k2. This is bad news, because heart health is a top health concern among people with diabetes, so eating probiotics on a regular basis is a very important factor for achieving a high volume of friendly bacteria. In the gut. A highly diverse ecosystem of gut flora is important for optimal function of friendly bacteria.

These microorganisms appear to work better as a very diverse collection of different strains, rather than when the variety of these trends is. Small studies have found highly diverse gut ecosystems to produce very good health outcomes, whereas no diversity of microorganisms residing in the gut is linked to an increased risk for diabetes, obesity, colon cancer and other health problems. Eating different probiotic foods is important for diversity, as each probiotic food contains.

A unique combination of strains of prebiotics are important nutrients needed for maintaining probiotics. There will be covered in the next lesson. Don’T miss today’s lesson is that probiotics function optimum when population and diversity are high. Please remember to subscribe comment and like thank you once again see you next time.

Daily Gut Health Routine: Gut Rebuild Nutrients + Probiotics

Ruscio and I’d like to share With you, my daily gut health routine, which involves the use of our Gut, Rebuild Nutrients, And our three probiotics Now you’ve likely heard me discuss probiotics Before but I haven’t spoken as much about gut rebuilding or repairing nutrients, which Do have a time and a place in a gut health and gut healing program. So I’d like to share my experience with you.

Using the various agents I’ve experimented with and how I’ve come to use Gut, Rebuild Nutrients plus probiotics on a daily basis, as my long-term gut health maintenance plan, I should mention that our Gut Rebuild Nutrients Is a blend of glutamine aloe, zinc, licorice and a few other select gut-supportive nutrients. Now, as you may know, in college, I had an Intestinal parasitic infection, which led me to feel quite terrible Brain fog, fatigue, insomnia, feeling cold And treatment, for that was very, very helpful.

I wouldn’t say it got me all the way to my Goal of feeling 100 % but certainly was a huge step forward. I improved even more when a few years later, I got myself on all three probiotics, That’s one of the main reasons why I recommend Using all three together, because that gave me another substantial jump forward in terms Of how I was feeling And then I finally saw what I would consider A satisfactory level of symptomatic improvement once I added in—along with our three probiotics—the Gut Rebuild nutrient cocktail, And I’ve been doing that now for about a year.

As I said, I felt much better after treating The parasitic infection with a combination of antibiotics and herbal antimicrobials A massive step in the right direction. However, I still had some lingering food sensitivities. And symptoms that would indicate I was having a food sensitivity reaction. I had a hard time with beef, eggs, spinach Alcohol and caffeine, regrettably – And this would oftentimes manifest as bloating Or brain fog or potentially loose stools, or even some fatigue And even chapped lips, which is actually an Example of the gut-skin connection In looking back over the past several years, A big jump forward in terms of how I felt came after clearing that parasite I’d say about 70 to 80 % improvement, But there were still some lingering symptoms.

Probiotics got me another 15 % or so, and Then another 15 %, or so when adding in the Gut Rebuild Nutrients. I really saw what I would consider fairly Robust health, when using the probiotics plus the gut-supporting nutrients together, Where I finally achieved this ability to not Be worried about what I was eating and was able to drink alcohol While it ’ s, not something I want to do all The time it was nice to have that freedom, But to be able to drink alcohol have caffeine.

And have some of these other foods that were kind of a problem for me was a big win: Beef, eggs, spinach raw vegetables? Also, Why? I think the probiotics, combined with the Gut Rebuild Nutrients works so well is because probiotics work to support balance in your Microbiota, bacterial and fungal balance, Whereas the Gut Rebuild Nutrients will help To support and repair the lining of the intestinal tract When we use these together, we have this nice Dual support: one for the microbiota, the bacteria fungus and similar areas, the other For the actual tissues or the lining of your gut And that’s why I think, together these pair Very nicely, And for me it was the combination that finally Got me over the hump and to what I would consider my goal level of health And what does the evidence show? Fortunately, there is a significant body of Research supporting both glutamine the main active ingredient in this formula and some Of the other select ingredients, So let’s start with glutamine and I’d like To start with the highest level of evidence, a meta-analysis which has essentially found That glutamine reduced leaky, gut and markers of intestinal damage To have a meta-analysis finding is very, very Encouraging Continuing to quote in patients with IBS And in leaky gut “ oral dietary, glutamine supplements dramatically and safely reduced All major IBS-related, endpoints” or symptoms, So that’s great.

That’S the results of a randomized control. Trial So we have a meta-analysis highest level: Evidence randomized control trial Continuing here regarding the evidence for Glutamine another review of several studies stated “ Inflammation has been shown to Be a cause of intestinal diseases such as ulcerative, colitis, Crohn’s Disease and colorectal Cancer… Several lines of evidence indicate that glutamine Has an anti-inflammatory property.

..” Very encouraging And another review quoting again: “ glutamine Supplementation can improve barrier function in several experimental conditions of injury. And in some clinical situations,.” – And this conclusion was also echoed by another Paper Now not all of the data on glutamine agree, And there are some data showing no benefit. From glutamine, Namely in a review paper, looking at the effect Of glutamine in active Crohn’s Disease, So this is a very specific patient population.

With an active inflammatory disease, So we want to consider that when looking at All the evidence, I think it’s a very reasonable conclusion. To state that, if you’re suffering with digestive symptoms of any sort at least a trial on Glutamine is something to consider, And other human studies have found that other Select ingredients in Gut, Rebuild Nutrients can also be effective And, to quote again, licorice and slippery Elm “ significantly improved both bowel habit and IBS symptoms in patients with constipation-predominant Ibs.

” Also regarding licorice and chamomile to Quote “ shown to be safe and effective in the treatment of mild gastrointestinal disorders….” Aloe vera, to quote “, is effective and safe for the treatment of patients with IBS compared To placebo,.” And zinc, carnosine has been shown to improve The gut mucosa, A clinical trial found zinc, was able to reduce Diarrhea So we see some fairly significant evidence: Showing that the ingredients contained in Gut Rebuild Nutrients can improve leaky gut Improve barrier function, reduce inflammation and improve the symptoms of IBS, Certainly some very encouraging scientific Data in human interventional trials and even meta-analyses, showing that this cocktail of Gut-Supporting nutrients can be helpful.

Where does something like Gut Rebuild Nutrients? Fit into your overall health plan: Well, it can really be used at any time and With other treatments, There’s no right or wrong, It can be used as an example, as I do along With probiotics, It can also be used, while administering antimicrobials Of various sorts, If you’re going through the health plan in Healthy Gut Healthy You, I would recommend either adding in Gut Rebuild Nutrients into Step two: the support phase where we use probiotics, if you want it to be really robust in your Support phase or alternatively, after your antimicrobials ( after step, three ), you could Add in the Gut Rebuild Nutrients during step, four Either one is fine.

Those are the two options. I’D recommend for You, But again can really be used at any point. Also remember that not everyone will need This, If you haven’t yet optimized your diet or Tried probiotics, then you may want to start there and consider layering in the Gut Rebuild Nutrients, should you not see optimum response from those? In close, our Gut Rebuild nutrient cocktail. Combined with our three probiotics has been my daily gut health routine.

Now for a little Over a year and it’s been quite effective And if you are trying to optimize your gut Health and still looking to find the ideal support to get you to an acceptable level. Of improvement, I hope you will consider adding our Gut Rebuild Nutrients into your plan. And potentially, also, of course, if you are not doing so already, our probiotics

Probiotics Improve Gas & Constipation by Decreasing Bad Bacteria in the Gut

Ratio and, let’s discuss how probiotics can reduce flatulence and improve constipation by reducing levels of unwanted bacteria. In your gut now, we’ll be talking about a study that was recently published and I’ll put the abstract of the study up here on the screen. The study was entitled methanol, revurb actor attenuation via probiotic intervention reduces flatulence in adult humans, a non-randomized pair design, clinical trial of efficacy.

So, specifically in the study, 21 subjects were given a probiotic that contain a mixture of lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium strains, and they found the abundances of citrobacter Klebsiella methanol and methanol. Reverb actor were reduced, so these are three bacteria that may not be great to have it in high quantities in the gut and the probiotics showed the ability to reduce the abundance of each one of these.

Now, more specifically regarding symptoms as the methanol revurb actor decreased, they did show that, as this bacteria decreased and technically this is not methanol. Revurb actor is not a bacteria. Technically, it’s an RKO. You can think of it like a cousin of a bacteria, but for simplicity sake. We can call it a bacteria. Essentially, as this organism, nathanael revurb actor decreased, there was a corresponding decrease in flatulence also for women.

Only there was a reduction of constipation. Why this is salient? Is this methane or Berber bacter archaea organism has been correlated with reducing the motility in the intestines and has been highly correlated to constipation. So it’s no surprise that we see reduced gas because these organisms produce gas and are a improvement in constipation, because this organism, methanol brevibacterium particular – has been highly correlated with constipation.

So what does this mean? A few notes for you: probiotics exerts, antibacterial effects. This is oftentimes overlooked, but probiotics in fact, one of the one of the main strengths or utilities of probiotics may not be if they colonize you most probiotics. Do not. However, they have a transient impact, one of which is secreting anti-bacterial and anti-fungal peptides. That can help reduce a fungal or bacterial overgrowth in the gut.

So there are other mechanisms, but one important mechanism is the mechanism of reducing unwanted bacteria and fungus, in the gut, by being, ironically, antibacterial and antifungal, by decreasing these levels of unwanted bacteria and fungus. In the gut, then, we can have a reduction of flatulence and improvement in constipation or bowel regularity, amongst other things. Now something else here to be cognizant of is being careful not to get pulled too into marketing claims regarding probiotics probiotics can certainly be helpful, and I encourage people to experiment with probiotics as long as it’s from a reputable company – and you know it’s – it’s a safe Tested form of probiotic that isn’t filled with a bunch of garbage, but you also have to be wary of some of the health claims, because now everyone seems is trying to one-up each other in saying that our probiotic is the the new improved the best.

What have you and one of the things I continually try to bring us back to is looking at the evidence and looking at how we see similar results with with different probiotics in many studies, you’re seeing different perturbations on a certain mixture and they’re all having similar Results, for example, there have been many studies that have shown a ability to reduce gas and or improve constipation with a lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium predominant blend of probiotic.

Is there one special blend or one special strain that will only vector those benefits? No, it doesn’t appear to be the case. Many different formulas with different strains of lactobacillus and different strains of before bacterium, have been trying to have these positive effects. Now, that’s just one class of probiotic there are, in my opinion, three other classes. You have a sacra boulardii probiotic, which is actually the fungus.

You have a soil based probiotic or a spore-forming probiotic, and this will oftentimes have various strains of the bacillus family and if, finally, you have a coli missile, one nine one, seven – and that is another class. There are a few other probiotics that are potentially slight slightly different from those categories, but if you look at the brunt of the research that has been done is it is with one of these four categories and you will see, for example, multiple studies showing an improvement In constipation with probiotics – and rarely is it the same formula – it’s always used, so certainly there may be a time in a place to become more prescriptive with probiotics, but I try to prevent us from making things unnecessarily complicated.

So in this case, we see that a lactobacillus Bifidobacterium blend has the ability to reduce flatulence and improve constipation. The constipation improvement was in women only, but other studies have shown with a similar probiotic improvements in constipation in men and women. So if you’re, someone who has flatulence and/or has constipation a trial of a lactobacillus Bifidobacterium predominant probiotic is certainly worth of trial.
